It was late afternoon and Gwen had barely just left Owen's. Instead of having him drive her, she'd decided to walk back to the Hub to retrieve her car. It would give her time to clear her head. She hadn't yet heard back from Jack...or Ianto and Tosh for that matter, but assumed all was fine. If it wasn't, they would certainly have phoned her mobile. They were probably just enjoying Christmas Eve with their families. It was something she'd be doing later that evening, she reminded herself.

She and Rhys were to have dinner with his parents that evening and then spend Christmas day with her family. It was their own little tradition, and the first time since Gwen could remember that she wasn't looking forward to the holiday.

She wondered what it said about her that she'd rather have just spent the entire thing in bed with Owen. She couldn't hide from Rhys forever, though, and the previous evening with Owen should have never even happened.

Gwen crossed her arms against the cold as she walked briskly down the sidewalk.

The Master took one of the two remaining drawers out, popped a piece of chocolate into his mouth, and then called Gwen's mobile. She might have been wondering about Jack, but perhaps not. At any rate, their conversation would doubtlessly prove to be more entertaining than any he might have had with the Captain.

At the sound of her mobile ringing, Gwen paused. She wondered if it was Owen calling to tell her she'd left something at his flat.

Pulling it from her purse and flipping it open, she started to walk again as she answered. "Hello?"
sound_ofdrums on July 16th, 2007 04:07 am (UTC)
"I wasn't sure if I ought to contact you again, but hello." She would know who he was without him saying so.
Gwen Cooper: talkingpc_gwen on July 16th, 2007 04:09 am (UTC)
Oh. So, not Owen, then.

"David," Gwen replied, sounding guarded. "I wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon."

"After the other night, I'm sure it's quite surprisingly," The Master replied somewhat casually, drumming his fingers along the edge of his desk. "Then again I wasn't exactly expecting to get hunted down as a rogue Time Lord."
Gwen Cooperpc_gwen on July 16th, 2007 04:14 am (UTC)
"I had nothing to do with that. Though, that didn't stop you from deciding to take me hostage. Give me one reason why I should even be talking to you now. I should call Jack and have him track you down again."

There was no real anger in her voice, though. Her curiosity had easily outweighed it.
sound_ofdrums on July 16th, 2007 04:15 am (UTC)
"I don't think I need to give you a reason, Gwen," he gently replied. "After all, you could hang up on me at any minute. As for taking you hostage, you will notice I didn't harm you and your man Jack gave me very little choice."
Gwen Cooperpc_gwen on July 16th, 2007 04:20 am (UTC)
Gwen sighed, knowing he was right. She wasn't about to hang up anyway, she just wanted to feel like she had the upper hand.

"Why did you call?" she asked, inwardly kicking herself for how rude that sounded. "Not that I mind. I was considering giving you a call myself."
sound_ofdrums on July 16th, 2007 04:24 am (UTC)
"I did feel bad about last night," he told her, ignoring the rudeness since she really should have been even more impolite. Once she knew the truth, she was likely to be.

"First, I wanted to thank you for being the only one to approach the situation with some willingness to cooperate. And second, I wanted to call a truce and meet you somewhere. But I don't know if Jack will allow that." As far as 'David' was concerned, Jack was back home.
Gwen Cooperpc_gwen on July 16th, 2007 04:30 am (UTC)
"I feel bad about last night as well. Jack should have never shot one of your men," Gwen replied.

Something about this man just made Gwen want to trust him. "I don't need Jack's permission on who I meet," she replied, "Would you like to meet at the same coffee shop as yesterday?"

The Master sighed somewhat mournfully as if he really cared all that much about the health of one bodyguard. "He's more of an associate, really. We work for the same organization."

He was pleased by how quickly she'd accepted. He liked that in a human. "I think that can be arranged. So long as we both arrive without everyone else this time."

Gwen Cooperpc_gwen on July 16th, 2007 04:41 am (UTC)
"I don't have anyone else with me," Gwen replied. "I'll trust that you don't, either."

She'd wanted to ask more about the organization he worked for, but figured there would be time enough for that when they met at the coffee shop. "I'll see you there in about fifteen minutes, then?"
sound_ofdrums on July 16th, 2007 04:50 am (UTC)
"Fifteen minutes it is," he agreed. "I'm looking forward to it." And then he ended the conversation and went to tell Lucy that he would be going out for an hour or so.

Gwen hung up the phone just as she reached her car.

She climbed inside and headed to the coffee shop, deciding this would be ineresting at least. Hopefully they could discuss more about what went wrong the previous day.

It took very little time at all to arrive at the coffeeshop. One bodyguard would be tailing him while the other would be keeping an eye on the lab. Of course, The Master was certain Lucy would keep an eye on him and The Rani would keep an eye on everyelse. And, really, he wished his secret location would have stayed a secret. 'Always room for one more' had never been his motto.

He waited patiently at a table, deciding he would order a drink after Gwen joined him.

A few minutes later, Gwen met him there. She sat down in the chair across from him, noticing he'd had the manners to not order a drink without her.

"Hello." She wasn't quite sure what to say to him now.
sound_ofdrums on July 17th, 2007 08:32 pm (UTC)
"Hello," he echoed in a thoughtful tone, glancing about before focusing on her. "Did you want anything to drink?"
Gwen Cooper: smilepc_gwen on July 18th, 2007 07:00 pm (UTC)
"Coffee would be fine, thanks," Gwen replied, her tone polite. "Really, really strong coffee."

She had a hell of a hangover from the previous evening's Christmas party, but tried her best not to look as ill as she felt.

The Master smiled and rose to his feet to place an order for two black cups of coffee. He returned to her with them and sat back down silently, waiting to see if she would speak first.
Gwen Cooper: smilepc_gwen on July 26th, 2007 04:24 am (UTC)
Gwen took her coffee with a grateful smile and sipped it in a contemplative silence for a moment before speaking.

"So, earlier you'd spoken of wanting to call a truce?"
sound_ofdrums on July 26th, 2007 10:30 pm (UTC)
"Between the two of us, at any rate," The Master clarified. "I'm not certain your Jack would ever want to speak to me again at this point."
Gwen Cooper: defaultpc_gwen on July 27th, 2007 06:41 am (UTC)
"I'm sure he'll come around," Gwen replied, with more confidence then she felt. "He just needs to realize that you're not this...Master, or whomever he has mistaken you for being."

That was easier said than done, though. Jack had seemed so sure he knew who David was. It'd be difficult to convince him that he was wrong.
sound_ofdrums on August 4th, 2007 03:59 am (UTC)
"I'm not sure it would be that simple," The Master informed her. Particularly not when, well, things were not as he was going to lead Gwen to believe they seemed. "But then I suppose the thing to do is learn more about this Master person."
Gwen Cooper: defaultpc_gwen on August 7th, 2007 05:45 am (UTC)
Gwen frowned down at her coffee. She knew how stubborn Jack could be at times.

When David mentioned learning more about The Master, Gwen nodded. "I had planned on it," she told him, "but I won't have time until after Christmas."

That was a lie. She could make the time, but between work and the previous night spent with Owen, she felt she really shouldn't take any more time away from what was supposed to be her and Rhys' holiday together.
