When the TARDIS had materialized, Rose pushed away from the column that she had been using to steady herself throughout the flight. She picked her jacket up from its heap on the floor and zippered herself snuggly into its warmth. Mittens and a scarf soon followed, hiding away what skin was left uncovered by the jacket and its hood. "Hope everyone's well bundled, then." She said with a smile, before striding down the ramp and shouldering open the blue door.

The strange Time Lord readings that the Doctor was receiving and the whirlwind of happiness and confusion that accompanied her return--it would certainly all be balanced out by a fine Christmas adventure on T..Tr..? Rose shook her head, unable to remember exactly what the Doctor had called this place. Regardless of pronunciation, she stepped out of the TARDIS in full anticipation of a crystallized  and icy (and alien) landscape.

But when Rose's eyes focussed upon what waited for them outside the TARDIS, she paused. "Err, Doctor?" She tossed the words over her shoulder, back into the blue box. "I think we took a wrong turn...somewhere."

She blinked. She closed her eyes and rubbed at her lids, but when she reopened them the sight had not changed. Oh, it was still Christmas. Except, it was Christmas in London.

The Doctor squinted and followed her to the door at her words. He came up behind her and peaked his head out, looking around, eyes wide.

And then they narrowed. "Bugger! Not again!" He rushed back inside the TARDIS and to the console, clicking keys, checking readings on the view screen.

He sent a mental scolding to the TARDIS, who merely blew what was much akin to a raspberry at him in return.

"Oi!" he cried. "I'm trying to find someplace nice for Christmas, and you land us in London! Why?"

The TARDIS didn't answer him.

He groaned. "Stubborn..."

He sighed at his two companions. "We might be stuck here in London, until the old girl decides she wants to take us someplace different." He sighed and touched a hand to the time rotor. "I don't know what's wrong with her..."
miss_rosetyler on July 22nd, 2007 05:06 pm (UTC)
Slowly, as though she were reluctant to tear her eyes away from the conundrum outside of the TARDIS, Rose retreated into the console room. She shut the door behind her but remained near the entrance, her back against the wood.

"Stuck in London's not so bad. There's worse places to be stuck, I'm sure." Rose tapped her foot against the grating and listened to the dull thud it produced. "Still, 's a bit odd. 'Specially since you ended up accidentally in London before, right? When I found the TARDIS..."

Rose had hoped that the original accidental appearance had been because of her, because she had been in London and the TARDIS had come to retrieve her. This second materialization shed doubt on the theory.

Rose decided not to think about how long they might be stuck in London. Instead, she smiled back at Donna and the Doctor. "We can still make the best of it though...Hot chocolate, candy canes, caroling!"
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 22nd, 2007 05:11 pm (UTC)
Rose was right. It was odd that he kept landing in 21st century Britain. London or Cardiff.

The Doctor looked over the console more, trying to figure out if anything was truly wrong with his TARDIS, or if she was just being a pain in his backside.

He looked up at the word 'caroling' in disgust. "Oh, no, Rose Tyler. I am not singing in public. You can forget it."
miss_rosetyler on July 22nd, 2007 05:20 pm (UTC)
In all honesty, Rose Tyler was not overly fond of caroling. She had nothing against singing, but she did not make it a habit to run from door to door singing on Christmas; however, the Doctor's protest was too strong not to tease.

She huffed a sigh and leveled a look at the Doctor, showing plainly that no back-talk would be tolerated. "Now, Doctor," she began as her hands found themselves perched on her hips. "There's no need t'spoil the fun. It's jus' one night and there's no reason to be fussy about singin' to a bunch of strangers."

It was rather hard to keep her smile from bubbling to the surface; it was doubly hard to keep from waggling her eyebrows and threatening that later would take a whole lot longer to arrive if the Doctor did not cooperate with Rose's diabolical Christmas plans.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 22nd, 2007 05:24 pm (UTC)
The Doctor gave her a pained look. He really didn't want to sing in public. "Fine. But I'm not singing the Frosty the Sowman song. It's rubbish."

He grabbed up his coat and pulled it on before heading for the door.
miss_rosetyler on July 22nd, 2007 05:32 pm (UTC)
Rose did not budge from her position against the door. Her arms did relax, and she reached up to swipe the hood off of her head. It wasn't going to be near as cold in London as she had expected their actual destination to be.

It took three seconds for guilt to wash over Rose once she had seen the Doctor's expression. She waited until he was directly in front of her before whispering, "I don't really wanna sing either. Jus' wanted to know if you'd say yes, really." Taking and giving, testing and probing. Rose wanted to know where their new boundaries rested.

She stretched her arm out to tweak the Doctor's cheek before clicking the door open and backing out of the TARDIS. "I'm sorry. Forgive me?" Rose mouthed with a budding smile.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 22nd, 2007 05:44 pm (UTC)
He sighed dramatically, and kissed the top of her head. "Just as long as Frosty isn't involved," he repeated, wrapping an arm around her.
miss_rosetyler on July 22nd, 2007 05:52 pm (UTC)
"I promise I won't be bringin' any snowmen to life." Rose swore with a hand held over her heart. She tucked herself obligingly into the Doctor's hold and peeked back into the console room.

She stood still outside the TARDIS and held the Doctor back with a hand. There was no use in running off to explore the festivities until all three travelers were out and ready to go.

Martha Jones: Woman, Doctor, and Defender of Earth: Martha: Leaningmj_storyteller on July 22nd, 2007 09:02 pm (UTC)
Martha Jones sighed irritably and quickened her pace, wrapping her arms around herself for extra warmth. She couldn't believe that the local shop didn't have any milk. She knew it was 6 o'clock on Christmas Eve, but she'd ran out of milk and she needed a mug of tea, damnit!

She'd worked an early shift at the Hospital so she could have Christmas Day off. Not that she was going to be doing any special. Her flat was still not finished, let alone decorated. She'd be having dinner with her family, and probably opening presents with them, but that was it.

She sighed again and continued walking, head down and immersed in her own thoughts.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 22nd, 2007 10:33 pm (UTC)
The Doctor walked along idly, looking for a place that sold hot chocolate. He sighed, and shoved his hands into his pockets. Something was definitely not right. The TARDIS wouldn't leave 21st century Britain, and there were 4 1/2 Time Lords running around apparently. This was probably the reason why the TARDIS wouldn't leave.

And yet...all he could think about was Rose's promise of "later."

He grinned to himself, but still searched for some sort of shop that sold a decent cup of hot chocolate.

He glanced up for a moment, and caught sight of Martha, walking along. He raised a hand in a wave and gave her a grin.
Martha Jones: Woman, Doctor, and Defender of Earthmj_storyteller on July 22nd, 2007 10:42 pm (UTC)
Something compelled Martha to look up from the grey pavement and he caught sight of a tall man walking towards her. A familliar grin graced his lips as he waved to her, and Martha couldn't help but smile back at him, her dark mood slipping away from her.

"Doctor!" She laughed, jogging the last few metres up to the Time Lord, "I thought you had gone already!"

((ooc; I'm not going to be able to reply after this one. I have to get up early for work tomorrow morning...damn these time differences! *headdesk* I'll reply as soon as I can, ok?))
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 22nd, 2007 10:58 pm (UTC)
(OOC: Sounds good. I'm hella distracted with my book 7 anyways. ;))

His grinned faltered a bit. "Well, turns out the TARDIS really doesn't want to leave 21st century Britain. I've been sent to fetch hot chocolate. What are you doing out on Christmas Eve? Shouldn't you be with that family of yours?"
Martha Jones: Woman, Doctor, and Defender of Earthmj_storyteller on July 23rd, 2007 05:40 am (UTC)
She saw this expression fall slightly and she wondered why the TARDIS was playing up. Maybe it's not playing up, Martha thought grimly. If it's not leaving 21st century Britain, then there must be a reason. Maybe she knows something the Doctor doesn't.

She didn't voice these thoughts, however, choosing to smile and shake her head at the Doctor's question.

"I'm not seeing them until tomorrow." she said, "I came out for milk, but apparently there's a shortage because it's Christmas." she rolled her eyes sarcastically.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 23rd, 2007 05:47 am (UTC)
"Ah. Jones gathering tomorrow. Makes sense."

The Doctor quirked an eyebrow. "That's a bit daft, in'it?" He sighed. "Well...like I said, I'm on a hot chocolate run...though we might have some extra milk in the TARDIS."
Martha Jones: Woman, Doctor, and Defender of Earthmj_storyteller on July 23rd, 2007 06:02 am (UTC)
"Yeah, just a bit." she said, smiling. She shook her head and moved to his side, facing the direction he was going. "I think I might come with you and just buy myself a mug of tea. A lot easier that way."

They started walking along the street and Martha frowned, turning towards the Doctor again.

"Hang on, you said that you'd been "sent" to get Hot Chocolate. That mean you have someone with you?" she said, unconsciously looking behind them to see if anyone was there.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 23rd, 2007 06:05 am (UTC)
"Brilliant," he grinned. "I've got company then."

The Doctor opened his mouth and turned his head back the way he came, the way the TARDIS was. "Oh! Yes. Well...they're...Donna's taking her time getting ready, though she's very new to the TARDIS, so for all I know should be lost, and Rose and I were waiting, and she mentioned wanting hot chocolate, and honestly it wasn't a bad idea, so I told her I'd go and get some while she waits for Donna."

Rose could feel the anticipation of hot chocolate traveling through her body; it started in the back of her mind and then uncurled, causing her head to tilt and her foot to bounce against the grating of the console room.

She had discarded her jacket and had draped her scarf over seat. Her heavily lined boots were becoming too warm and she was itching to remove them. Rose kicked at her own feet, twisting the footwear away from her.

At every fleeting sound she would glance upwards and sniff the air for the tell-tale scent of warm drinks. She sat and waited for Donna to appear in order to inform the woman of the unexpected detour. She also waited for the Doctor.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 26th, 2007 03:40 pm (UTC)
The Doctor opened up the TARDIS doors and stepped in, followed by Martha. "Hello! I've got hot chocolate! And Martha!" He smiled at Rose, and then looked around. "Donna's still getting situated then?"
miss_rosetyler on July 26th, 2007 03:53 pm (UTC)
The the sound of the Doctor's voice, Rose tossed aside the magazine she had been reading. It had been found in her room and was a couple years out of date. But the fashion faut-pas of the past were easily forgotten when she held out her hands to receive the hot chocolate.

It smelled delicious, and Rose told the Doctor so within her first breath. Perhaps if she focussed her attention entirely on the hot, smooth beverage then she could delay the concious realization that Martha Jones had followed the Doctor into the TARDIS.

It was not that Rose Tyler was expecting to dislike Martha. In fact, she felt grateful for what Martha had accomplished in what the Doctor had described as the 'year that never was'.

But gratitude could not quite overcome Rose's expectations. Martha had traveled with the Doctor for a long while after Rose had been trapped. It was bound to breed awkwardness and she could already feel an envy uncurling in her stomach that she could not justify.

Martha had been traveling with the Doctor when she, Rose herself, should have been at his side. She frowned into her hot chocolate and tasted the cream on top.

"Hello, Martha." Rose said when she lifted her face from the cup. She managed a polite smile.
Martha Jones: Woman, Doctor, and Defender of Earth: Martha: Looking Upmj_storyteller on July 26th, 2007 04:07 pm (UTC)
Martha followed The Doctor into the TARDIS and smiled at the familiar surroundings. It was almost like coming home.

Her eyes caught movement around the console and she looked to see what it was. A woman was walking towards them, and she smiled as she accepted one of the cups from The Doctor. She was blonde and slim with blue eyes and a wide bow-shaped mouth. Martha knew, somehow, that this was the almost legendry Rose Tyler.

She watched as the blond drank from her hot chocolate, seeminly not noticing she was there. Martha got the impression that she was stalling, and annoyance shot through her, along with a streak of jealousy. She squashed them down and calmed herself, knowing that being childish wasn't going to do any good.

"Hello, Rose." she replied, returning her smile with one of her own, hoping that it didn't look as forced as it actually was.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 26th, 2007 04:15 pm (UTC)
The Doctor looked from Rose to Martha, and back to Rose, and then Martha and then Back to Rose.

Right then. Maybe this wasn't the best idea he's ever had.

"Well...why don't we move this into the kitchen, aye?" He started to slowly move toward the corridor. "I bumped into Martha, which is the second time in around twenty-four hours that's happened." He gave a geeky smile. "Funny that, aye?"

"Anyways, I think we've still got some biscuits lying about in the kitchen, if either of your are hungry. And There should be bananas. I like bananas. I hope they've not rotted out."
miss_rosetyler on July 26th, 2007 04:21 pm (UTC)
Rose shifted her hot chocolate from being cupped by two hands to being gripped by one. Her newly free hand reached out to the Doctor's elbow. With contact restored, Rose began to breath a little easier.

"Kitchen's a great idea." She smiled, taking a full sip of hot chocolate before she spoke again. "An' I think you're right about those biscuits. There's definitely some left. I saw them this morning."

Surreptitiously, she kept an eye on Martha and hesitated on any further direct communication. Rose did not now how to approach this situation.
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 26th, 2007 05:04 pm (UTC)
The Doctor took Rose's hand from his elbow and entwined it with his as they walked, sipping from his cup.

"Should make a shopping trip, three people on the TARDIS again. Need milk. And jam." He smirked at Martha. "You remember when we got attacked by that huge Glcmthoth when we were buying milk that one time? That was brilliant."
Martha Jones: Woman, Doctor, and Defender of Earth: Martha: Arrowmj_storyteller on July 26th, 2007 05:46 pm (UTC)
Martha trailed behind them as they made their way to the kitchen. She wasn't sure how to react to Rose or what to say to the woman. She could tell she wasn't comfortable with her being there, and Martha knew how she felt. She wasn't exactly comfortable being there either, but she had wanted to come; and not just because of The Doctor either. Curiosity had won out and she wanted to meet this Rose woman that The Doctor thought to highly of...this Rose woman that The Doctor loved.

The Doctor's comment about the Glcmthoth brought her out of her musings and she quirked her eyebrow?

"Brilliant?" she said, "This is the same Glcmthoth who went after us with a huge club? The same Glcmthoth that said," she deepened her voice, "This my land! You trespass! I kill!"
justthedoctor10justthedoctor10 on July 26th, 2007 06:06 pm (UTC)
The Doctor gave her pained look. "Oh, he wasn't all bad. He was just misguided. Got confused about which land was actually his. He's only got about 5 % of the brains a human's got." He turned to Rose with a grin. "He was very friendly once he realized it wasn't his land. like to be scratched behind the ears."
